In 1998 my husband Jay and I decided living in the metropolitan Atlanta area had run its course. We loved our home in Snellville, a great community and suburb of Atlanta, but ninety minute one way commutes to our jobs each day made us realize, "there's got to be a better way of life somewhere else". What better place to chose than our favorite vacation spot, the North Georgia mountains, where both our commutes average less than forty total minutes daily. Of course this meant quitting long time full-time jobs and their security and starting new careers at forty. Somehow that appealed to us both. Jay was a supervisor for a paint contractor and I was a Large Account Underwriter for an insurance brokerage firm. What to do in a small town of less than 17,000?

I did some research and discovered real estate was a large industry in the Blue Ridge area. I enrolled in real estate school at Coldwell Banker in September 1998 and attended night school for over two months, receiving my license shortly thereafter. Jay decided to start his own painting business. After a few months of making arrangements to move, sell our home and work out our notices, we moved to Blue Ridge in June of 1999.

Take a peak at our now renovated home on the Toccoa River, where going home at the end of the day has true meaning. There is peace and serenity here...the ability to watch our dogs Molly and Abbey run along the river bank, while beaver frolick in the cool trout filled water and the sun sets on the North Georgia horizon...it's truly a better way of life.
